Kooser

I enjoyed "A Letter in October". I don't really understand why, I think it's because it captures a real esence of saddness and a longing for something slowly dying. He talks about how the days are getting shorter and colder. He mentions wishing he could sit on his porch with his coffee enjoying the sunrise. It's simple and every emotional.

Frost's "Birches"

I believe that Frost's poem Birches is a little lengthy but, stives to make the reader understand why he is writing about Birch trees. I think it's a bit of nostalgia and the want and/or need to escape.
"I'd like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.
May no fate willfully misunderstand me
And half grant what I wish and snatch me away
Not to return." (lines 48-52)
He blatantly states he wishes to escape and intimated that as a child when he used to swing from the Birch trees, he used it as an escape. I believe Frost tells the reader that everyone needs an escape and that everyone should find something that can help them escape from reality.
